This Benedictine priory was a dependency of the great Norman abbey of Bec, founded in the later eleventh century at Clare, and moved in 1124 to Stoke-by-Clare. This and the next volume print the large mid-thirteenth century cartulary; part three contains an historical introduction to the charters and priory’s history.
