Our Morning Praise service on 12 January, which celebrates the baptism of Christ, will also mark the 834th anniversary of an important ceremony held in 1186. In January of this year, the Bishop of Norwich, at an appropriate ceremony, granted the patronage of Aldringham church to Leiston Abbey. This patronage lasted for 350 years until the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry 8. We will also give thanks for the growth of Aldringham church during its time in the care of the Abbey.
Information about the patronage can be found in the Suffolk Records Society’s first Charters Series volume, “Leiston Abbey Cartulary and Buxton Abbey Charters”. We shall explore the fascinating historical events leading up to the 1186 ceremony and the service will include music from the period performed by our talented choir
