New Digital Material

We are proud to announce that we have made some more digital material available on the site and two new pieces can be found on our “Digital Series” page.

The Churchwardens Accounts of the Parish of St. Peters in Ipswich is over one hundred pages of transcribed church accounts covering the period 1563 to 1664.  The accounts provide a detailed insight of the life of an urban parish adjusting to the demands of changing religious and civic life.

The second piece is a much shorter but fascinating inventory.  St Peter’s church, probably the earliest of the many medieval parish churches in Ipswich, was appropriated for use as the chapel of Thomas Wolsey’s ambitious but short-lived collegiate foundation 1528-30/31. This surviving inventory of ?1530/31 provides a unique insight into the extraordinary circumstances resulting from this event.
